
On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the city of Lviv will honor the memory of two fallen Heroes — Yevhen Shapovalov and Volodymyr Rozumnyi, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from Russian occupation.
The Lviv City Council urges residents and visitors to attend the memorial events and refrain from entertainment during this time.
🔹 The farewell ceremony for Volodymyr Rozumnyi will begin at 09:30 a.m. at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Lypnyky, Lviv region.
🔹 The joint funeral service for both soldiers will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Lviv.
Following the service, around 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will be held at Rynok Square.
🔹 Yevhen Shapovalov will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
🔹 Volodymyr Rozumnyi will be laid to rest at Holosko Cemetery (Veterans’ Field).
Biographies of the Fallen Defenders:
Yevhen Shapovalov (April 29, 1973 – March 23, 2022)

Born in Kazakhstan, moved to Mariupol at the age of three.

Graduated from school No. 9 in Mariupol and earned two higher education degrees — in banking and law.

Completed compulsory military service in the air defense forces.

Worked for over 20 years in the tax militia.

In 2017, signed a contract with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

After the full-scale invasion began, he evacuated his family to Lviv and served on the eastern front with the 1st Border Detachment of the Eastern Regional Directorate.

Was posthumously awarded the rank of colonel.
He is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters, and brother.
Volodymyr Rozumnyi (April 8, 1983 – April 14, 2025)

Born in Drohobych, Lviv region.

Studied at the Prykarpattia Military-Sports Lyceum and the Poltava Military Institute of Communications.

Served in the 76th Separate Signal and Radar Support Regiment, and later in the Western Air Command in Lviv.

Since the onset of the full-scale war, he carried out missions on the Donetsk front.

Recently served with military unit A0306.

Honored with the “Badge of Honor” by the Ministry of Defense and the “Cross of Military Honor” by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Had a passion for foreign languages and was described as an exemplary man of military honor and kindness.
He is survived by his mother, wife, and daughter.
