Lviv to Honor Vitaliy Zababurin and Vasyl Korotoshyn on January 24

On Wednesday, January 24, Lviv will bid farewell to two Ukrainian heroes, Vitaliy Zababurin and Vasyl Korotoshyn, who gave their lives defending Ukraine against Russian invaders. The city council urges residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and refrain from any entertainment activities on this day.

The ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. At 11:30 AM, a citywide farewell will take place at Rynok Square, offering everyone the chance to honor the fallen defenders.

Vitaliy Zababurin will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery, while Vasyl Korotoshyn will be buried at Yaniv Cemetery.


Biography of Vitaliy Zababurin

Dates of Birth and Death: January 15, 1996 – May 17, 2022
Vitaliy was born in the village of Bilokuzmynivka in Donetsk Oblast. He studied at the local gymnasium and later graduated from Kramatorsk Vocational School. After his studies, he completed his mandatory military service.

For a time, Vitaliy worked as a turner at a machine-building plant and had a passion for working with wood and metal.

In 2020, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served in the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade “Zaporizka Sich.”

When the full-scale invasion began, Vitaliy faced the enemy on the front lines. While his family relocated to Lviv, he continued performing combat missions.

Vitaliy is survived by his mother, sister, and two nephews.


Biography of Vasyl Korotoshyn

Dates of Birth and Death: January 16, 1981 – January 22, 2025
Born in Lviv, Vasyl attended School No. 62 before graduating from the Technical College of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic.”

After completing his education, Vasyl served in Kolomyia as part of his mandatory military service. He worked for a local security company and later as a delivery driver. His family remembers him as a calm, kind, and compassionate individual.

With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Vasyl volunteered to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He served in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo.

Vasyl is survived by his mother, brother, nieces, godchildren, and extended family.
