Honoring the Memory of Yurii Luhovskyi, Hero of Ukraine
Today, March 9, marks the 7th anniversary of the death of 23-year-old Hero Yurii Luhovskyi \”Barret\”.
Yurii Luhovskyi was born on June 5, 1994, in Chervonohrad, graduated from secondary school No. 9. In memory of Yurii and his mother, Azov Corps psychologist Natalia Luhovska, who died on May 3, 2022, in Azovstal, the school was renamed the Gymnasium named after the Luhovskyi family.
Participation in the Revolution of Dignity and the War in the East
\”Barret\” was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, and with the start of the war in the East in 2014, he volunteered for the Donbas battalion, with which he went through Ilovaisk, and later joined the ranks of the Azov regiment.
Military Service and Heroism
Sergeant of the National Guard of Ukraine, sniper-scout of the Azov regiment, Yurii Luhovskyi defended Shyrokyne and Mariupol. In one of the battles for Shyrokyne in April 2015, Barret’s bullet eliminated an enemy combatant during the filming of a propaganda segment by a Russian TV channel.
Comrades remember Yurii Luhovskyi as a true and brave warrior, constantly engaged in combat missions and courageously heading into battle. Azov members recall him as an experienced field commander, whom they set as an example and sought to emulate, as well as being very responsible and composed.
Yurii Luhovskyi died on March 9, 2018, near the village of Vodiane in the Pryazovia region, from a bullet of an enemy sniper during a sniper duel.
