On Saturday, 8 February, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Valentyn Yarotskyi, who gave his life defending Ukraine from Russian invaders.
The mayor’s office calls on residents and guests of the city to join the city’s ceremony of farewell to the soldier and to refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Later, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.
Valentyn Yarotskyi will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical note on the defender
Valentyn Yarotskyi (19.09.2000-29.01.2025) was born in the village of Husakove, Cherkasy region. Later, the family moved to the village of Bortnyky, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
He studied at the Bortnyky Gymnasium, then entered the State Educational Institution “Korshiv Professional Agricultural Lyceum”, where he received the profession of “mechanic”.
During 2020-2021, he served in the 184th Training Centre of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy.
After returning, he worked in the construction industry. In his spare time, he was fond of football.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, he returned from abroad and signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine on his own initiative. He defended the state in the ranks of the 1st Ivan Bohun Territorial Defence Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During 2023, he was engaged in the evacuation of the Defenders in Donetsk region, and from May 2024, he performed combat missions as an assault pilot in the Kharkiv direction.
Valentyn Yarotskyi is survived by his mother, sisters and girlfriend.
