Brotherhood on the Frontlines: The Story of Guardsmen from the 2nd Halytska Brigade Fighting Near Pokrovsk

Arsen, known as Senya among his comrades, hails from Lviv region, while his battle brother Danylo, with the call sign Zeus, is from Donetsk region. Both serve in the 2nd Halytska Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. Their bond, forged over years, grew stronger during missions near Pokrovsk, where they defend Ukraine, deliver supplies, and hold their positions under constant enemy fire.

From Civilian Life to the Battlefield

Arsen and Danylo were not professional soldiers before the war. Their military experience was limited to conscription service and university military training. Before 2022, Danylo worked for a hydraulic company but felt compelled to defend his homeland when the full-scale invasion began.

Arsen, leaving his civilian job in Lviv, also joined the defense forces. He recalls:

“I always knew that if the need arose, my place would be among those fighting for Ukraine.”

The Secret of Brotherhood in War

The guardsmen believe that shared responsibility, overcoming challenges, and supporting each other are the cornerstones of their friendship. They meticulously prepare for each mission, understanding that coordinated actions are crucial for success.

Danylo describes their perilous tasks:

“We escorted soldiers to positions, delivered provisions, weapons, and ammunition. The enemy often targeted our routes with airstrikes, mortars, and even gas.”

In one instance, under mortar fire, Arsen safely led a group to a secure location, saving their lives.

The Power of Unity and Human Connection

Despite constant shelling, they maintain morale through camaraderie and brief calls home. Differences in traditions between Donetsk and Lviv regions have only strengthened their bond.

Danylo emphasizes:

“In a trench, it doesn’t matter where you’re from. We fight, eat, and support each other as one.”

Arsen adds:

“We share traditions, recipes, and even carol together. It’s part of our shared experience.”

Unity Day: A Symbol of Strength for Soldiers

For both guardsmen, Unity Day is more than a historical event. They see it as a reflection of the collective resilience demonstrated on February 24, 2022, when the nation stood as one.

“Unity isn’t just history; it’s the treasure we protect on the frontlines,” Danylo states.

Arsen concludes:

“The unity in the hearts of millions of Ukrainians is what will lead us to victory.”
