Drohobych region meets the fallen defender of Ukraine Yaroslav Babiak: eternal memory to the Hero

On 18 June, the Drohobych community welcomed a courageous warrior and patriot, a resident of the village of Bystrytsia, Yaroslav Babiak, who gave his life for the freedom of Ukraine.

The defender was born on 13 May 1968. The soldier studied at school No. 16 in Drohobych, then at vocational school No. 15, where he received a degree in welding.

He did his military service in East Germany, in the GDR.

Subsequently, Yaroslav Babiak worked at the Drohobych Crane Plant.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion on 2 March 2022, he was mobilised into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo. He defended the borders of our country in the Donetsk region.

He was the shooter of the III rifle division of the I rifle platoon of the I rifle company of the I rifle battalion of the military unit A-0998.

Unfortunately, on 15 June, the defender was killed as a result of artillery shelling by the occupier while moving between positions in the Chasiv Yar area, Donetsk region.

On 18 June, the mourning convoy with the body of the fallen Hero was brought to his native community. The meeting took place at the crossroads of Heroes, where relatives, friends, comrades-in-arms and the leadership of the Drohobych community gathered. Accompanied by clergymen, they held a joint prayer and paid tribute to the heroic deeds of the Hero, who gave the most precious thing he had for his country – his own life.

From the intersection, the convoy with the body of the defender headed to Bystrytsia, to the home of the deceased, where a parastasis rite will be held at 19.00.

The funeral service will be held on 19 June at 11.00 a.m. in the Pantheon of the memory of soldiers who died in the war against Muscovy of St Michael the Archangel Cathedral. The Hero will be buried in the cemetery in the village of Bystrytsia.
