The Drohobych community gathered to meet and pay their last respects to Oleh Yakymiv, a soldier who gave his life for peace and independence of Ukraine. Oleh was called to the armed forces on February 7, 2024, and served as a senior shooter-operator. His life was tragically cut short on April 28, after which he was considered missing in action. Official confirmation of his death was only recently received, and his body was returned home for proper funeral rites.
In the village of Rykhtychi, where Oleh lived before his military conscription, the funeral procession was met at the intersection of Heroes, where a joint prayer and commemoration of his memory took place. Local residents, along with the warrior’s relatives, escorted the coffin through the intersection to his home, where a memorial service will be held today. Tomorrow, at 1:00 PM, an official funeral service will take place at St. Basil’s Church, after which Oleh will be laid to rest at the local cemetery.
The sorrow and pain of loss are felt in every word, but memories of Oleh’s bravery and sacrifice will live on in people’s hearts forever with the words ‘Eternal memory to the Hero of Ukraine’.
