Drohobych Community Mourns Fallen Defender Vasyl Yukhymenko

The Drohobych community is mourning another painful loss due to the ongoing war with Russian aggressors. Vasyl Yukhymenko, a defender of Ukraine, died while on duty. Today, his body was brought back to his hometown for a farewell ceremony.

Vasyl Yukhymenko was born on February 13, 1974, in the village of Nahuievychi, where he spent his childhood. He graduated from the local school and continued his education at a college in Pidbuzh. Most of his life, Vasyl worked abroad.

In April 2024, he received a draft notice and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 125th Brigade, 216th Separate Battalion, as part of the rifle company.

On December 14, 2024, while serving on the Sumy front line, the hero’s heart stopped.

Vasyl is survived by his parents, wife, two daughters, grandson, and brother.

Today, December 21, the community gathered to honor Vasyl Yukhymenko’s memory. At 1:00 PM, a mourning convoy arrived at Heroes’ Crossroads, where family, friends, comrades-in-arms, and officials from the Drohobych community and Nahuievychi administrative district paid their respects. Clergy conducted prayers, and flowers were placed on the hero’s coffin.

At 7:00 PM, a vigil was held at Vasyl’s family home in Nahuievychi. Tomorrow, December 22, at 2:00 PM, the funeral service will take place at the Church of the Transfer of St. Nicholas’s Relics (UGCC). He will be buried at the local cemetery.
