From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian occupying forces into Ukraine, the canine inspectors of the Lviv Police Canine Center and their faithful four-legged assistants, in addition to their usual duties, were involved in the performance of official and combat tasks.
It is impossible to imagine police work without service dogs. They help law enforcement officers in everything – during patrolling, arresting criminals, searching for missing persons, detecting weapons, explosives and drugs. Four-legged dogs also help the police in solving crimes – since the beginning of this year, more than 170 criminal offenses committed in the Lviv region have been solved with their participation.
Together with canine police officers, service dogs are involved in the performance of official and combat tasks – they serve at checkpoints, patrol the territory, detect suspicious persons and dangerous objects, including weapons, mines and explosives, thus bringing our Victory closer.
Every service dog that “arrives” for police service necessarily goes through a general training course, after which, depending on their abilities, they begin to be trained in specialties – the search for explosives and weapons, narcotic substances, people, and the search and arrest of an intruder.
Today, 21 service dogs work in the Canine Center of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region. Among them is a young addition: two puppies of the “German Shepherd” breed – Baghira and Sheri. Soon they will replace experienced service dogs who have served in good faith and will “retire”.
In the meantime, dog inspectors and their pets carry out daily service, including in the zone of active hostilities, bringing our Victory closer – the day when the last Russian invader will leave our land.
