History from the front: Oleg from Mariupol, having evacuated from his hometown, joined the defense of Ukraine as part of the 24th OMBr

The occupiers destroyed many buildings in Mariupol, including Oleg’s family home. After everything, the military man was evacuated to Lviv together with his family.

Oleg, a soldier of the 24th OMBr named after King Danylo, was born and raised in Mariupol. He finished school there and started working first as a metallurgist at Azovstal, and later at the Ilyich Metallurgical Plant. But his whole life turned upside down when the Russians came to Mariupol.

“I could not coexist with these inhumans, so together with my family I decided to evacuate to the territory of free Ukraine,” Oleg admitted.

When they left the occupied city, many houses had already been destroyed, including the house on Sonyachnaya Street, where Oleg lived with his family. The corpses of townspeople who died at the hands of the occupiers lay in the streets.

They left their native Mariupol at night, walked 18 kilometers to the Ukrainian checkpoint. After that, Oleg’s family moved to Lviv, where the man registered with the Military Commissariat and went to serve in the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo.

“I serve with one thought: I really want to liberate the occupied territory, and especially my native Mariupol. I often fall asleep and imagine how we install the Ukrainian flag at the Mariupol city council. This is, of course, an imagination, but I firmly believe that sooner or later we will do it,” the military man emphasized.
