Every day at 9 a.m., Ukraine observes a moment of silence to honor those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom amidst Russian aggression. Today, the Lviv region bows its head to remember its fallen defenders.
🕯️ Volodymyr Kolodchak
A native of Stebnyk. Since 2024, he served under contract as a grenade launcher assistant in the motorized infantry battalion “Shkval” (military unit A1619). He was killed on January 3 due to an FPV drone strike near Novoelyzavetivka in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region.
🕯️ Taras Melnyk
A resident of Drohobych who first joined Ukraine’s defense in 2014. In 2023, he voluntarily returned to service. He served as a junior sergeant and commander of a rifle platoon in military unit A4809.
After being wounded near Bakhmut, he underwent treatment in Dnipro and Lviv and was declared “partially fit” for service. However, he chose to return to the front line, where he was killed on December 30, 2024, near Shestakove in the Chuhuiv district of Kharkiv region.
🕯️ Victor Danylo
A resident of Starychi village in the Yavoriv district who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the onset of the full-scale war. He served in the 4th Tank Brigade in Kharkiv region as a mechanic-driver of a self-propelled artillery system.
He was awarded the badges “Golden Cross” and “War Veteran.” He died on December 31, 2024, during combat in the Kharkiv direction.
🕯️ Oleksandr Hnatenko
Originally from Luhansk region, he lived in Popasna but was forced to evacuate to Drohobych due to the Russian invasion. He was mobilized into the Armed Forces in April 2022.
He served as an inspector of the border guard service and driver in the mortar group of military unit A9937. He participated in operations near the Belarusian border and later in Bakhmut, where he was injured.
After recovery, he returned to combat, participating in operations in Kursk and Kharkiv regions. He died on January 1, 2025, in Zelenyi Hai, Kharkiv region.
🕯️ Myroslav Lushchak
A Lviv resident who joined the Armed Forces following Russia’s full-scale invasion. He served in the 7th Border Carpathian Detachment, participating in missions in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. He died on December 28, 2024.
🕯️ Ihor Hromoklytskyi
Born in Donetsk, his family relocated to Lviv in 2014. After the full-scale invasion, he joined the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv. He was killed on January 1, 2025.
