(Українська) СБУ відпрацьовує версію про причетність російських спецслужб до організації вбивства Ірини Фаріон

The Security Service of Ukraine is working on a version of the involvement of Russian special services in the murder of a public figure, former MP Iryna Farion.

This was announced by the SBU First Deputy Head Serhiy Andrushchenko at a joint briefing of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the SBU.

“The SBU immediately joined the investigation of this high-profile crime. A set of measures is being taken, and we are studying the suspect’s connections both in Ukraine and abroad. And one of the versions is the involvement of the services of the aggressor country in the organization of this crime. We are checking the involvement of the detainee in the neo-Nazi movement, the center of which is located in the aggressor country,” said Serhiy Andrushchenko.

In his turn, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko provided some details of the investigation, which led to the identification of the attacker, an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro.

“This week we have fully established the timing and timing of this suspect’s life during the 10 days he was preparing for the crime. You know that he was detained yesterday in the city of Dnipro. We have done everything to bring this person to justice,” said Igor Klymenko.

He emphasized that law enforcement agencies had done a great deal of work and thanked all the investigators and specialists involved.

According to Ivan Vygivskyi, Head of the National Police of Ukraine, more than 900 witnesses were questioned, 22 forensic examinations were conducted, and more than 9,000 images from 170 CCTV cameras were analyzed as part of the investigation.

According to the investigation, the offender arrived in Lviv by train on July 9 and rented and changed 3 different apartments to disguise himself. He prepared for the crime by watching the house where Iryna Farion lived for a long time.

According to Ihor Klymenko, a bullet casing was found at the murder scene, which was probably fired from a converted sports pistol.

Search queries were also found in the browser history of the suspect’s mobile device, which may indicate his interest in the activities of various pro-Russian politicians in different regions of the country.

During the briefing, Deputy Prosecutor General Anton Voitenko said that the detainee has already been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder).

Today, a court in Lviv will hold a hearing to choose a measure of restraint. The prosecution proposes to impose detention without bail.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
