Today, Lviv will say goodbye to four Heroes who defended Ukraine

On Friday, February 10, Lviv will say goodbye to four more Heroes. Andriy Kopychyn, Andriy Filipchuk, Denys Yakovlev, Serhii Zolotaryov defended Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremonies and refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral of Andriy Kopychyn and Andriy Filipchuk will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a.m. – city farewell ceremony on Rynok Square.

The funeral service of Denys Yakovlev and Serhiy Zolotaryov will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 2:30 p.m. – city farewell ceremony on Rynok Square.

Heroes will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

Serhiy Zolotaryov (December 22, 1980-December 3, 2022) from Lviv.
Studied at Secondary Secondary School No. 77 with an in-depth study of economics and management. Graduated from Vocational and Technical School No. 53 of Lviv.

After completing his studies, he completed military service in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

During the last period, he worked at the Terra-Pak Private Enterprise. He previously held positions in Micro-F and Gal-club Limited Liability Companies. He was fond of cars and fishing.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, he joined the ranks of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the “West” operational command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the Motherland. Performed combat missions in the eastern and southern directions.

Serhii Zolotaryov is survived by his wife, three sons, parents, sister, mother-in-law and goddaughter.

Andriy Kopychyn (June 10, 1967-February 2, 2023) from Lviv.
He studied at Lyceum No. 51 named after Ivan Franko of the Lviv City Council. In 1985, he graduated from the State Educational Institution “Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic School”. Received a higher education at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” majoring in “Engineering Mechanics”.

In peacetime, he worked at the Public Joint-Stock Company “Lviv Plant “Forklift Truck” and at the Limited Liability Companies “Comfort-Service” and “EFE Beton”.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, he decided to defend the Motherland and joined the ranks of the 103rd separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Andrii Kopychyn is survived by his mother, wife, son with his family, daughter, godchildren and nephews.

Denys Yakovlev (09.08.1984-01.02.2023) Born in Horlivka, Donetsk region.
He studied at the State Educational Institution “Raisin Professional Agrarian Lyceum”. In 2016, he moved to Lviv.

While living in Donetsk region, he was engaged in farming. He was fond of football and the work of Leonardo da Vinci.

Actively supported the Revolution of Dignity, performed combat tasks in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation as part of the Hero of Ukraine Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi operational battalion of the Northern Operational Territorial Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine. He participated in the battles for Debaltseve, Stanytsia Luhansk and on the Svitlodar arc.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he fought against the terrorist state in the ranks of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Denys Yakovlev is survived by his girlfriend, son and daughter.

Andriy Filipchuk (“Grey”) (September 25, 1989-February 2, 2023) was born in the village of Khyshevychy, Lviv region, in the family of archaeologist Mykhailo Filipchuk.
He studied at the Koropuz secondary school. Graduated from the Faculty of History of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. During 2011-2014, he studied at the graduate school of LNU named after I. Franko, majoring in “archaeology”.

In 2015, he assumed the position of deputy director for scientific work of the Historical and Cultural Reserve “Davniy Plisnesk”. Archaeologist, historian, tour guide in Lviv and Plisnesk. The head of the Plisne archaeological expedition (2016-2021), a member of the NGO “Union of Archaeologists of Ukraine” and the NGO “Pidhirtsi-Sholom”.

Author of more than 150 scientific and popular science works and monographs. He was interested in archeology and the early history of the Slavs, the antiquities of the Plisne archaeological complex. Actively researched and popularized the medieval historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, he did not hesitate to defend the Motherland. He defended the state in the ranks of the 103rd separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the front, he mastered the professions of a combat medic and a SPG-9 “Spice” gunner. Performed combat missions in the “hottest” spots of Luhansk region and Donetsk region. He remained devoted to his life principles: “God, Ukraine, family.”

Andriy Filipchuk is survived by his wife, a small son and a sister.
