Today, Lviv said goodbye to Heroes Oleksandr Kurii and Vladyslav Korniychuk

On Monday, July 31, Lviv will say goodbye to two Heroes. Oleksandr Kurii and Vladyslav Korniychuk defended Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The Heroes’ funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

Oleksandr Kurii (December 26, 1997-July 24, 2023) from Lviv.

Studied at Lyceum No. 2 of the Lviv City Council. Received vocational and technical education at the State Educational Institution “Lviv Higher Vocational School of Design and Construction” by profession “installer of plasterboard structures; plasterer, painter”.

After completing his studies, he worked by profession. In his free time, he was actively involved in sports: he was fond of football and handball.

On the second day of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he volunteered to defend the Motherland from the invaders. At first, he performed combat tasks for the defense of the state in the ranks of the Volunteer Battalion “OUN”, later – as part of the 3rd separate assault brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (former unit of the SSO “Azov”). He fought with the invaders in the southern and eastern directions.

Oleksandr Kurii is survived by his grandparents, mother, two brothers and cousins.

Vladyslav Korniychuk (16.01.1997-27.07.2023) Born in Kherson.

Studied at the Kherson secondary school of grades I-III No. 47 of the Kherson City Council. Received higher education at Kherson National Technical University. After completing his studies, he served in the National Guard of Ukraine.

Before the start of the war, he worked in the trade sector, as well as a driver of a medical clinic. He was an exceptionally versatile person: he was fond of technology and aviation, studied the defense industry and mechanical engineering. Masterfully piloted river vessels.

After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he moved his family from the village of Chornobayivka, Kherson region, to Lviv. Here he worked in one of the district territorial centers of recruitment and social support. Later, he voluntarily joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state as a combat vehicle commander in the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the “West” operational command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During his service in the eastern direction, he earned the rank of “junior sergeant”.

Vladyslav Korniychuk is survived by his parents, wife and 4-year-old daughter.
