Today Lviv region says goodbye to seven defenders

Taras Haida

A resident of the village of Sukhovolya, Zolochiv district. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the warrior stood up to defend his homeland. He was a senior operator of the anti-tank guided missile unit of the fire support company of the operational battalion of the military unit of the Western Military District of the National Guard of Ukraine. He died on 7 May during a combat mission near the village of Myrolyubivka, Pokrovsk district, Donetsk region. The defender was 36 years old.

🕯️ Orest Hnidyshyn

A resident of the village of Humenets, Shchyrets community, Lviv district. The soldier served in the 80th separate airborne assault Galician brigade. He died on 11 May. He was 38 years old.

🕯️ Andriy Karpliuk

🕯️ Andrii Karpliuk

Andrii was born in Ternopil. At an early age, he moved to Stryi with his parents. He joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in March 2022. He was a senior sergeant, senior gunner of an ATGM unit of a mechanised battalion. He performed combat missions in many “hot” frontline areas. His last battle was near Novodanylivka, Zaporizhzhia region. He had been missing for almost two months.

He lived in Mykolaiv, Stryi district. He defended Ukraine as part of the 24th King Daniel Brigade. In June 2024, he took part in the battles near Chasovyi Yar in Donetsk region and went missing. In May 2025, the body of the defender was identified. The soldier was 46 years old.

🕯️ Volodymyr Melnyk

Born in the village of Niklovichi, Lviv region.

He spent about 20 years of his life serving in the Department of the State Protection Service at the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Lviv region.

From the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions as part of the 125th separate territorial defence brigade. He fought against the invaders in Donetsk region, where he was seriously wounded, but soon returned to the front to his comrades. He was awarded numerous decorations.

🕯️ Ihor Polishchuk

A resident of Lviv.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in the Zaporizhzhia direction as part of the 103rd separate brigade of territorial defence named after Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyi. He was honoured by the military command for his conscientious service.

🕯️ Vasyl Lypey (“Prince”)

A resident of Lviv.

Participated in the events of the Revolution of Dignity. After its completion, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and took part in the anti-terrorist operation. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, he stood up to defend his homeland from the Russian occupiers.

He took part in the liberation of Kyiv region, and also performed combat missions in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia directions in the ranks of the 44th separate artillery brigade named after Danylo Apostol. For his personal courage, he was awarded numerous decorations, including the honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Golden Cross” and the medal “For Unbroken Spirit”.
