The Sokalska hromada received two pieces of sad news at once. This was reported by the Sokal City Council.
The heart of the Defender of Ukraine Serhii Yatsenko stopped beating in hospital.
The Hero lived with his family in the village of Balky, Vasyliv district, Zaporizhzhia region.
On 08.11.2019, he enlisted under a contract to serve in the military unit A-3488, 24th separate assault battalion “Aidar”, served as a rifleman.
For five years, he took part in the defence of his homeland in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. He served in such positions as Pervomaisk, Soledar, Hranitne, Vuhledar, Volnovakha, Anadol, Klishchiyivka. During the full-scale invasion, the Yatsenko family was forced to move to Sokal, where they now live.
From 2022, Serhii Yatsenko served in the Donetsk sector near Novohryhorivka.
For the past year and a half, he served in the Bakhmut sector, defended Bakhmut and Chasovyi Yar, and took part in the liberation of Klishchiyivka.
He was wounded, doctors fought for his life, but unfortunately, they failed to save Serhiy Yatsenko. The defender is survived by his wife, 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Both sons are serving in the Armed Forces and the Border Guard Service.
We ask the community to postpone all work and come to the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul tomorrow, 10 July, at 15.00, to meet the body of the Hero.
The burial ceremony will take place on 11 July 2024 at 12.00. Serhii Yatsenko will be buried on the Alley of Glory in Sokal.
On 06 July, 2024, in the Kupyansk direction, Hero Ruslan Lenko, born in 1985, a resident of Sokal, died while performing a combat task to protect the territorial integrity of the Motherland, repelling and deterring armed aggression.
He was called up for military service on 14 March 2024, served as a driver of a machine gun squad in the military unit A-4858.
