The website of the President of Ukraine continues to collect signatures to award the honorary title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) to a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – a brave, courageous, young soldier, defender of our Motherland, a resident of Drohobych, Mykola Ilnytskyi, who stood up for our country until his last breath.
Mykola Ilnytskyi was born on 19 April 1981, he lived in Drohobych on Truskavetska Street. He studied at lyceum №2 and vocational school №19. He worked at the Olis company and a local bakery.
After his wife’s death, he raised his two children – a daughter and a son – alone.
Mykola was mobilised on 12 May 2024. The warrior joined the ranks of the reconnaissance company of the 95th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and performed combat missions to defend Ukraine at the forefront.
The warrior is survived by his parents, sister and two children.
While in the combat zone, the Drohobych resident never complained that it was hard for him, he always encouraged everyone. According to his comrades-in-arms, Mykola was responsible for performing combat missions and stood up to the end to defend his homeland.
Unfortunately, the warrior died on 1 September 2024 while performing a combat mission to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine near the village of Mala Loknia, Suzhansky district, Kursk region, Russian Federation, from life-threatening injuries from firearms.
Mykola gave the most precious thing – his life – for us and for his country, with so many plans and dreams. The soldier is survived by his parents, sister and two children.
We are all proud of Mykola, his courage and strength of spirit. Our Hero, loving son, father, brother, godfather, brother-in-law and good friend is 43 forever…” the petition reads.
