He returned from the war to rest forever in his hometown, where he was loved, respected, waited for…

Today, on their knees and with deep pain in their souls, relatives, brothers, representatives of the authorities, soldiers, volunteers, colleagues, friends and the numerous community of Truskavets met the funeral home with the body of defender Petro Yurkevich.

The Truskavets City Council reported the sad news.

Traditionally, the funeral cortege stopped at the intersection of Heroes, where six priests sent a memorial service for the repose of his soul. After a joint prayer, the audience sang “Eternal Memory”, the national anthem “Neither the glory nor the will of Ukraine has died yet”, and the boys who knew him, fought together with Peter, paid their respects to their brother in their own way: “The brave warrior “Ax” – Glory! Glory! Glory!” – chanted the brothers.

The mother’s bitter tears flowed like a river, the hearts of the brothers and sisters and the son of the fallen Hero, defender of Ukraine Petro Yurkevich froze. From there, the procession headed to Truskavets to the Church of the Holy Prophet Ilya (UGCC).

Many people knew Petr Yurkevich in our city. He was born on July 2, 1980 in Truskavets and studied at the first school. He was a patriot and loved justice. Petro has been fighting for our independence and freedom since 2014. After passing ATO, he returned home, and soon, with the beginning of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to the service. At his request, funds were collected in Truskavets for the purchase of a special ATV for evacuating the wounded from the battlefield.

In the ranks of the Armed Forces, junior sergeant Petro Ivanovich Yurkevich was the commander of a combat vehicle – the commander of the 3rd mechanized division A 4123. “Sokira”, as Petro was known by his brothers, was an experienced military man, so recently he had been doing a lot with new recruits – teaching them tactical training. Petro Yurkevich died on April 1, 2024, while performing a combat mission near the city of Chasiv Yar – artillery shelling left no chance for the defender, so he died in this battle as a brave warrior and commander.

Sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the Defender. We mourn with you and bow our heads in deep sorrow.

Eternal memory and honor to the Ukrainian soldier who defended his native land and all of us! Let’s remember the price paid by our defenders, support our army, support our volunteers so that the death of these Heroes is not in vain, so that their Glory lives with our Victory!

Let’s pay tribute to the warrior in his last journey to the Lord!

Parastas – today at 19:30. Funeral – April 5, Friday at 12:00.
