Today, the Velykomostivska community bid a tearful farewell to its Defender, Ivan Doletskyi, who gave his life for Ukraine’s freedom and independence.
In September 2023, Ivan joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pledging loyalty to his nation. He courageously fulfilled his military duty, but on October 17, 2023, he was killed in battle. For a long time, he was considered missing, and his family held onto hope that he would return home—to his young daughters, his wife, and his mother. They believed they would hear his voice again, that he would say, “I’m home.” But war is ruthless…
Today, residents and soldiers knelt as they welcomed their fallen Hero—first at the city entrance and then in the central square of Velyki Mosty. The funeral procession then moved to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church, where Ivan had once served and prayed. There, he was given his final honors. Later, a memorial service was held at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where the community prayed for his soul.
Ivan was laid to rest at the city cemetery to the sounds of a military orchestra and the National Anthem of Ukraine. His burial was conducted with full military honors, including a farewell salute. His wife, Liliana, was presented with the Ukrainian flag on behalf of the President of Ukraine.
It is becoming increasingly painful to say goodbye to young defenders who should have been building their futures, starting families, and enjoying life. But war takes them away, leaving behind only sorrow and tears.
Rest in peace, Hero…
Eternal memory and glory to Ivan Doletskyi!
