The Sokal community has received an emotional and long-awaited piece of news: Vladyslav Sternichuk, a Ukrainian Defender born in 1999 and a resident of Sokal, has returned home after being held in enemy captivity.
At the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Vladyslav joined the 63rd Separate Battalion of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine alongside his father, Stepan Lutchyn. In August 2023, Vladyslav was captured by enemy forces. Just a few months later, in December 2023, his father was killed in combat defending his country.
Vladyslav’s mother, Alina Lutchyn, was left grieving her husband but remained steadfast in prayer, hoping for her son’s return. Her unwavering faith and daily prayers became a source of strength for Vladyslav during his time in captivity.
Today, that hope was fulfilled—her son Vladyslav has returned to his homeland alive. The entire community of Sokal welcomes him back with gratitude, pride, and deep respect.
Welcome home, Vladyslav! Thank you for your courage, resilience, and indomitable spirit!
