The defender of the Zhovtanets community was posthumously awarded the “Hero’s Cross” order

The honorary award “Hero’s Cross” was awarded to a resident of the village of Zhovtansi, Petro Yakymiv. During 2014–2017, he participated in the ATO.

The soldier was awarded the “Participant of ATO” badge. With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, he volunteered to defend the Motherland. He fought as part of the 24th OMBR named after King Danylo. Died on March 30, 2022, near Popasna settlement, Luhansk region.

Petro Maryanovich Yakymov was born on July 12, 1990 in the village of Stariy Mylyatyn, Bussky district, now Zolochivskyi district, Lviv region

He studied at the Novomylyatynska Secondary School I-III. After finishing school, he studied at the College of Natural Sciences in Lviv, later at the Lviv University named after Yv. Frank

In 2013, he was drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces. From 2014 to 2017, he participated in the ATO. Petro was wounded in Popasnaya and was treated in Lviv. Awarded the “Participant of ATO” badge. He defended the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine directly in the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kherson regions. Muzhno and his comrades “held” the Luhansk airport.

In 2017, he returned to civilian life. Later he got married. Together with his wife Oriseya, he raised three children: Artem, Zlata, Diana.

From the first days of the war, he did not hesitate to volunteer in the same 24 OMBR named after King Danylo. His wife and relatives did not know exactly where Peter was, but he always said that “everything is fine.”

Peter was a loving son, brother, husband, and father. He always said: “My soul is to God! Life – Ukraine! Honor to yourself!”. Eternal pain and eternal sorrow for the best, son, father, husband, brother. The faithful son of Ukraine was faithful to the Oath until his last breath, incredibly believed in victory, inspired others with patriotism. He will always be remembered as a man of honor, a true patriot who was admired as a man and a warrior.

Petro died on March 30, 2022 as a result of a combat clash and massive artillery shelling near the village of Popasna

Peter is survived by three children (triplets), his wife, parents, brothers and sisters.

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 359/2022 dated May 22, 2022 “On the awarding of state awards of Ukraine” for personal courage and selfless actions shown in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath of Sergeant YAKIMIV Petro Maryanovych was awarded the Order “For Courage ” III degree (posthumously).

“Hero’s Cross” is an award that was initiated in the 24th OMBr named after King Danylo. It was introduced to honor the memory and feat of all fallen comrades since 2014 in the war with Russia.

The “Hero’s Cross” order was borrowed from the times of the Ukrainian People’s Republic. The award is very similar to the “Cross of Petliura” order.
