Tomorrow, on 20 August, the community of Lviv will say goodbye to three soldiers. Taras Salo, Vasyl Velykycholovyk and Mykhailo Levandovskyi defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.
Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
The funeral ceremony for the defenders Taras Sala and Vasyl Velykyi Cholovyk will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. Taras Sala will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery, and Vasyl Velykyi Cholovyk will be laid to rest at the Dublianske Cemetery.
The funeral service for the defender Mykhailo Levandovskyi will begin at 15:00 in the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul on Lukasevych Street. Peter and Paul on Lukasevych Street. The warrior will be buried at the Ryasnyanske cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders
Vasyl Velykycholovyk (10.02.1996-02.11.2023) was born in Dubliany.
He studied at the Dubliany Basic Lyceum named after the Hero of Ukraine Anatoliy Zhalovaha of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from the Lviv Interregional Higher Vocational School of Railway Transport.
After graduation, he worked as a freight forwarder. In his spare time, he was fond of football and cars. According to his family, he was “an extremely cheerful person, a true soul of the company”.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend his homeland from the invaders. He performed combat missions in the Kharkiv region in the ranks of the 14th separate mechanised brigade named after Prince Roman of the Great Operational Command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The defender is survived by his parents, brother and godson.
Mykhailo Levandovskyi (20.01.1974-20.07.2024) Born in the village of Bertyshiv, Lviv region. He lived in Lviv.
He studied at Lyceum No. 94 of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from Higher Vocational School No. 63 in Lviv (today – Lviv Higher Vocational School of Transport Technologies and Services of National Transport University).
Throughout his life, he worked in the transport sector: first as a driver at the Commercial Production and Private Company Budekstra, and later at TOI-TOI Sanitary Systems Limited Liability Company. In his spare time, he was fond of fishing and mushroom picking, and was an extremely “responsible, kind, hardworking and caring person, a loving father and husband”.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought against the invaders in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv and Donetsk directions in the ranks of the 33rd Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Mykhailo Levandovskyi is survived by his parents, wife, three children and a brother.
Taras Salo (18.08.1991-18.08.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school No. 99 in Lviv. In 2013, he graduated from the Lviv State University of Life Safety with a degree in Transport Organisation and Management.
After graduation, he joined the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Subsequently, Taras Salo became an inspector of the Patrol Police Response Sector of the Police Department No. 1 of the Chervonohrad District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Oblast. He was actively involved in sports, in particular kickboxing, and participated in a number of national competitions. He was a loyal fan of Lviv’s Karpaty. According to his family, Taras Salo was “a warrior, extremely determined and eager to devote his life to helping others”.
In May 2023, he stood up to defend the state from Russian invaders. He performed combat missions to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the eastern direction as part of the Special Police Regiment No. 1 (Safari Assault Regiment) of the Special Police Department “Joint Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine “Rage”. Most recently, he held the position of deputy platoon commander. Despite five serious injuries, he returned to the front every time to join his comrades.
Taras Sala is survived by his grandmother, parents, daughter, wife and sister.
