Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to two defenders

On Saturday, 28 September, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Andriy Shutyak and Maksym Ushenko, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.

The mayor’s office calls on citizens to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony for the defenders will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a citywide farewell ceremony on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographical information about the defenders

Andrii Shutyak (05.12.1972-30.10.2023) Lviv resident.

Andrii Shutyak (05.12.1972-30.10.2023) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at the secondary school №60 in Lviv. Lviv. Subsequently, he received his vocational education at the Lviv Specialist College of Transport Infrastructure of Lviv Polytechnic National University.

After graduation, he served for three years in the missile forces.

He worked at the Centre for Construction and Installation Works and Operation of Buildings and Structures of the Ukrainian Railways Joint Stock Company. He devoted all his free time to his family. According to his family, he was an incredible person: very sensitive, kind, always ready to help, cheer and support. Cheerful, courageous, loyal, heroic – whatever he set out to do, he always succeeded.

With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he stood up to defend the state from the occupiers. He defended the sovereignty and independence of his homeland in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions in the ranks of the 25th separate assault battalion of the 47th separate mechanised brigade “Magura” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Andrii Shutyak is survived by his wife and daughter.

Maksym Ushenko (05.07.1986-22.09.2024) A native of the village of Prostore, Luhansk region.

Maksym Ushenko (05.07.1986-22.09.2024) was born in the village of Prostorove, Luhansk region.

He studied at the Prostorove Lyceum and later entered the Bilokurakyne Professional Agricultural Lyceum.

After graduation, he worked in his native Prostoriv. He was fond of fishing and raising rabbits. According to his family, he was a very kind man who never left anyone in trouble.

Since 2017, he has been performing tasks in the anti-terrorist operation/Joint Forces operation area, first as part of the 138th training battalion of the material support, then the 46th separate assault battalion “Donbas”.

He met the beginning of the full-scale invasion on the front line. He fought against the invaders in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and from 2024 he was a member of the 54th separate mechanised brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa of the East Operational Command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Despite his injury, he continued his military service.

Maksym Ushenko is survived by two children and two brothers.
