Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Mykhailo Chekh and Viktor Kirmarov

On Friday, 2 February, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Mykhailo Chekh and Viktor Kirmarov, who defended Ukraine from Russian occupiers. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 12:00 in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a city farewell ceremony at 12:30 on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographical information about the defenders

Mykhailo Chekh (27.02.1992-11.12.2023) was born in the village of Romaniv, Lviv region.

He studied at Romaniv secondary school of I-III levels. He received his education at the State Educational Institution “Stavropigi Higher Vocational School of Lviv”. After graduation, he did his military service in Lviv.

He worked in the construction industry. In his spare time, he was fond of crafts. According to his family, Mykhailo Chekh was a very kind and cheerful person.

During 2014-2015, he performed combat missions in the anti-terrorist operation area as a member of the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he joined the 71st separate ranger brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend his homeland. He defended the sovereignty of the state in the southern and eastern directions.

For his personal courage and loyalty to the military oath, he was awarded numerous decorations, including the badge “For Defence of Luhansk Airport” and others.

Mykhailo Chekh is survived by his wife, parents and sister.

 

Viktor Kirmarov (21.01.1966-26.01.2024) A native of Rybcha village, Ternopil region.

He spent his school years in a boarding school with his sister. In 1984, he entered the Lviv College of Radio Electronics (today – Vyacheslav Chornovil Educational and Research Institute of Sustainable Development). After completing his military service, he entered Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Viktor Kirmarov devoted his entire life to working at Lviv Milling Machine Plant Limited Liability Company. He loved literature and read about 500 books while studying at primary school. According to his family, he was a wonderful husband and a loving father.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he actively helped the Ukrainian army. In August 2023, he joined the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. At first, he performed tasks as part of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, and later – the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the SBGSU. He was defending the country on the eastern frontline, where he was seriously wounded.

Viktor Kirmarov is survived by his wife, son, sister, nephews and godchildren.
