Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Volodymyr Levytskyi and Yaroslav Melnyk

On Thursday, November 2, Lviv will say goodbye to servicemen Volodymyr Levytskyi and Yaroslav Melnyk, who died at the hands of the Russian invaders while defending Ukraine. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The servicemen’s funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Volodymyr Levytskyi (May 20, 1998-October 26, 2023) was born in the village of Sivashivka, Novotroitska district, Kherson region.

He studied at the secondary comprehensive school of the village of Sivashivka. He was educated at the Faculty of Law of the National University of Water Management and Nature Management in the city of Rivne.

In 2017, he joined the ranks of the 45th Regiment named after Oleksandr Krasitskyi of the Western Operational Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine. During his service, he earned the rank of “senior sergeant”, and since 2018, he performed combat tasks in the area of the anti-terrorist operation.

He was an exceptionally kind person, smiling, sensitive, caring, fair and courageous, never refusing to help others.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation stood up to protect the Motherland from the Russian invaders. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the eastern and southern directions of the front.

Volodymyr Levytsky is survived by his wife, daughter, parents and sister.

Yaroslav Melnyk (June 3, 1990-October 27, 2023) was born in the village of Knyazholuka, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

He studied at the Dolyna Lyceum “Intellect” of the Dolyna City Council. He received his higher education at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”, during his studies he also graduated from the military department at the university.

A military serviceman, he held the position of commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces. He was an active public figure, intellectual, blogger and sportsman, one of the founders of the “Right Sector” Youth Association in Lviv Oblast. He headed the NGO “Lviv Veterans Brotherhood”.

Participant of the Revolution of Dignity, later volunteered to go to war against the occupiers. During 2014-2015, he performed combat missions in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in the ranks of the “Azov” regiment. For personal courage, he was awarded the award of the President of Ukraine “For the Defense of Ukraine”.

After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he defended the state as part of the 140th separate center of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Yaroslav Melnyk is survived by his mother, father, sister and girlfriend.
