Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Yuriy Horishevskyi and Bohdan Nyzhnyk

 

On Tuesday, 28 May, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Yuriy Horishevsky and Bohdan Nyzhnyk, who were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service for the defenders will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery.

He studied at the secondary school №91 in Lviv. Lviv. He graduated with a degree in Economics and Law from the Private Joint Stock Company “Higher Educational Institution Interregional Academy of Personnel Management”. Subsequently, he entered the Lviv University of Trade and Economics.

In peacetime, he was engaged in private entrepreneurship in the construction industry. During 2011-2017, he lived in Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, and later worked in the Kingdom of Sweden. According to his family, he was extremely sociable, lived and worked to the fullest.

On the eve of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to his homeland. From the very first days of the war, despite his poor health and lack of military experience, he voluntarily defended the state against the invaders. He performed combat missions on the southern and eastern directions in the ranks of the 31st separate mechanised brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During his service, he was promoted to the rank of Junior Sergeant.

Yurii Horishevskyi is survived by his mother, sister and daughter.

Bohdan Nyzhnyk (26.05.1984-01.03.2024) Born in the village of Maheriv, Lviv region.

Bohdan Nyzhnyk (26.05.1984-01.03.2024) Born in the village of Maheriv, Lviv region. He graduated with honours from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with a degree in Finance.

After graduation, he worked in the Bank in his speciality, but later changed his field of activity. His last job was at VKNOTERM PE. In his spare time, he was fond of literature, travelling, and was an active sportsman.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend the state from the occupiers. He defended Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty in the eastern part of the country in the ranks of the 24th Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Bohdan Nyzhnyk is survived by his parents, wife, two children and a brother.
