On Wednesday, 27 November, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Markiyan Morozevych, who gave his life defending Ukraine from Russian occupiers.

The City Hall calls on residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul. Later, at approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

The defender’s biographical information

Markiyan Morozevych (‘Samurai’, ‘Strelok’) (23.01.1998-08.03.2022) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at Lviv secondary school No. 82 of the Lviv City Council. In 2014, at the age of 16, he joined the 2nd Reserve Battalion of the Right Sector, where he underwent military training and volunteered for the needs of the soldiers.

In July 2015, he joined the 8th Aratta Battalion and performed combat missions in the anti-terrorist operation zone. He was awarded a number of state decorations for his brave service.

At the same time, he studied at the Law College of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. In 2017, he entered the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy, Faculty of Combat Use of Forces, which he successfully completed in the summer of 2021, receiving the rank of Lieutenant.

Lieutenant. From July 2021, he performed combat missions to defend the Motherland in the Luhansk region in the ranks of the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command ‘West’ of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to his family, he was a true warrior, based his command work on clear subordination, mutual trust and respect, and constantly taught his soldiers military skills. Even before the outbreak of the Great War, he applied innovative technical solutions, organised a remote battlefield surveillance system, designed and used a remote-controlled bullet system, which his men successfully used at the front.

By the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 08 May 2022, he was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, III degree (posthumously) for personal courage and selfless actions in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as loyalty to the military oath.

Markiyan Morozevych is survived by his grandmother, parents, brother, godparents and extended family.
