Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to Heroes Andrii Bontsiun and Denys Averkiev

Tomorrow, February 23, Lviv will say goodbye to two more Heroes. Andrii Bontsiun and Denys Averkiev died defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul (11 Teatralna St.), at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. Heroes will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

 

Andrii Bontsiun (29.01.1981-09.01.2023). A native of Lviv.

 

He studied at the “Oriyana” Lyceum of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from the former vocational and technical school No. 30 of the city of Lviv.

In peacetime, he worked in the construction industry, engaged in home repairs. He was fond of cars.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to protect the Motherland from the Russian invaders. Fought against the invaders in the eastern direction in the ranks of the Donetsk border detachment of the Eastern regional administration of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

Andrii Bontsiun is survived by his mother, wife, daughter and son.

 

Denys Averkiev (June 19, 1991-February 16, 2023).

 

A native of the city of Lysychansk, Luhansk region.
Studied at Lysychan Lyceum No. 8 of Luhansk Region. He graduated from the Lysichan Mining and Industrial Vocational College. After completing his studies, he worked as a miner, later – in the field of communications.

In 2013, he joined the military service of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat tasks in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, was wounded twice, but returned to the front.

Lived in France since 2016.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to the Motherland, despite the status of a person with a disability, joined the ranks of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the “West” regional administration of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought against the occupiers in Sumy, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.

Denys Averkiev is survived by his parents, sister, wife and little daughter.
