Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to three Heroes who defended Ukraine

On Saturday, June 17, Lviv will say goodbye to three Heroes. Oleg Khristenko, Andriy Tymoshenko and Volodymyr Yakivtsiv died defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. Heroes will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

Oleg Khristenko (October 19, 2001-June 7, 2023) from Lviv.

Studied at Secondary Secondary School No. 98 of the city of Lviv. He studied at the Lviv Polytechnic National University.

From a young age, he showed an active civic position, was a participant in various patriotic movements and initiatives.

In peacetime, he worked in the IT field: at first he was a specialist of the “lEVEL UP” company, later he began to implement successful private projects.

In the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, despite his lack of military experience, he independently went to the capital and joined the ranks of the 3rd separate assault brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (former separate special purpose regiment “Azov”). According to Oleg Khristenko himself, he “will not be ashamed in front of his children, and will have something to tell his grandchildren.” At first, he performed combat missions in the Kyiv region, later he defended the territorial integrity and independence of the state in the southern and eastern directions.

Despite the serious injury received in the battles, he returned to the front to his comrades. At the same time, he studied literature and wrote programs. He worked on a new IT development to improve the combat capability of Ukrainian snipers, but he did not have time to complete his last project.

Oleg Khristenko is survived by his mother, stepfather, fiancée, grandparents, half-brother, uncle and nephews.

Andriy Tymoshenko (September 24, 1976-June 10, 2023) from Lviv.

He studied at the Belzki supporting institution of general secondary education of the I-III degrees of the Belzki City Council of the Lviv Region. Received vocational and technical education at local school No. 13.

He lived most of his life in the United States of America, from where he returned in 2010. In peacetime, he worked as a driver at the Lviv communal enterprise “Road Repair Enterprise of Halytsky District”.

He was fond of motorcycles and riding them, engaged in hunting.

During 2015-2016, he performed combat missions in the area of the anti-terrorist operation as part of the 2nd separate Galician brigade of the Western operational-territorial unit of the National Guard of Ukraine.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the ranks of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the Motherland.

Andriy Tymoshenko is survived by his mother, wife, daughter, niece and brother-in-law.

Studied at Lyceum No. 66 of the Lviv City Council. In 1989, he graduated from the Ukrainian Academy of Printing, majoring in “Mechanical Engineer”. After completing his studies, he served in the artillery in Mongolia.

He mastered carpentry on his own, worked in the best furniture manufacturing companies in Lviv. Subsequently, he started his own business in the field of woodworking and furniture production. He skillfully played the harmonica, was a “master of all trades.”

From the first months of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he voluntarily joined the ranks of the territorial defense. Fought against the Russian occupiers as part of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the “West” regional administration of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

For his significant personal contribution to strengthening the state’s defense capabilities, he was awarded the “Badge of Honor” badge of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Yakivtsev is survived by his wife, daughter and sister with their family.
