Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Ihor Dubyk, Bohdan Oboist, Oleh Protsailo

 

On Friday, 23 August, Lviv will say goodbye to three soldiers. Ihor Dubyk, Bohdan Oboist, and Oleh Protsailo were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s funeral ceremony and to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The farewell to Bohdan Oboist will take place at 08:35 near the family home at 17 Yavornytskoho Street in Vynnyky. Then, from 09:25 to 10:00, the funeral will take place in the park at 40 Halytska Street.

The funeral service for the defenders Bohdan Oboist, Oleh Protsaylo and Ihor Dubyk will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, and at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographical information about the defenders

Ihor Dubyk (27.06.1963 – 11.10.2023) Born in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region.

Ihor Dubyk (27.06.1963 – 11.10.2023) was born in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region.

He studied at the secondary school №60 in Mariupol. Mariupol. He graduated from Priazovsky State Technical University.

After graduation, he started his own business, making furniture and other joinery. He was actively involved in sports: wrestling, football and chess. According to his family, he was an extremely erudite man, who collected a large library at home. He was fond of numismatics, gardening, and beekeeping.

He performed combat missions in the anti-terrorist operation zone in the ranks of the Azov. As one of the founders of the Mariupol Druzhina NGO and the head of the Patriot NGO, he immediately joined the local territorial defence when the full-scale invasion began. He heroically defended Mariupol on the left bank of the city and, after being seriously injured, was hospitalised at the Azovstal plant. He was captured in Olenivka and in Russia.

He returned home only after 200 days of imprisonment. Three months later, without waiting for his full recovery, he returned to his comrades-in-arms. He defended the state in the ranks of the 109th separate territorial defence brigade of the Regional Directorate “East” of the Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ihor Dubyk is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Bohdan Oboist (31.05.1988-18.08.2024) A native of the town of Vynnyky.

Bohdan Oboist (31.05.1988-18.08.2024) was born in the town of Vynnyky.

He studied at the secondary school №47 in Lviv. Lviv. After graduating from high school, he became a gas and electric welder and car mechanic.

He worked for the private security firm EFORT, as well as at a blacksmith shop and a tyre fitting business. In his spare time, he loved walking with his children and outdoor activities, and was fond of football.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the territorial defence. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state as a member of the 125th separate territorial defence brigade of the regional directorate “West” of the Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was involved in the evacuation of the wounded and was repeatedly recognised by his command for his conscientious service.

Bohdan Oboist is survived by his parents, wife, two daughters and a brother.

Oleh Protsailo (12.08.1988-19.08.2024) A resident of Lviv.

Oleh Protsailo (12.08.1988-19.08.2024) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at secondary school No. 92 in Lviv. He graduated from the former Higher Vocational School No. 63.

After graduation, he signed a contract with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He served in the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment of the Western Regional Directorate of the SBGS. In his spare time, he was fond of playing billiards and loved outdoor activities.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the ranks of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Yevhen Pikus, of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service to defend the state from the occupiers. For his personal courage, he was awarded numerous decorations, including the Golden Cross, an honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Oleh Protsailo is survived by his parents and sister.
