Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to three defenders – Mykhailo Vartovnyk, Oleg Bohenek and Volodymyr Oleshny

On Saturday, October 7, Lviv will say goodbye to three defenders. Mykhailo Vartovnyk, Oleg Bohenek, Volodymyr Oleshny died at the hands of the Russian occupier while defending Ukraine. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The servicemen’s funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

Mykhailo Vartovnyk and Oleg Bohenek will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. And Volodymyr Oleshny – at the local cemetery in the village of Gamalivka, Lviv region.

He studied at the secondary comprehensive school No. 42 of the city of Lviv. Graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University, majoring in Computer Technologies and Engineering.

After completing his studies, he served in the ranks of the 45th Regiment named after Oleksandr Krasitsky of the Western Operational Territorial Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine.

In peacetime, he worked as a storekeeper in the distribution center of the Limited Liability Company “Nestle-Ukraine” in Malekhov. He was fond of cars and playing chess, loved active recreation with his family and friends.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the 116th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the 10th Army Corps of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the Motherland from the invaders. He was awarded numerous awards for his personal contribution to the defense of the state.

Mykhailo Vartovnyk is survived by his parents, wife, two children and a brother.

Volodymyr Oleshnyi (April 21, 1987-September 29, 2023) was born in the village of Gamalivka, Lviv region.

He studied at the Gamalivska comprehensive school of grades I-II (today it is the Gamalivska gymnasium). He graduated from the State Vocational and Technical Educational Institution “Lviv Higher Vocational School of Computer Technologies and Construction”. Graduated from the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after Stepan Zenonovich Gzhitsky, majoring in “Management”.

He worked as a cashier in a financial company of the city of Lviv. In his free time, he was fond of football and cars. He liked to compose poems and sing Ukrainian folk songs, travel and spend time with loved ones.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, despite the lack of military experience, he volunteered to defend the Motherland in the ranks of the 10th separate rifle battalion. After military training abroad, he joined the 116th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the 10th Army Corps of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was repeatedly awarded by the military command for his personal contribution to the defense of the state.

Volodymyr Oleshny is survived by his grandmother, parents, wife, brother and sister and their families.

He studied at the secondary comprehensive school No. 54 of the city of Lviv. He graduated from the State Educational Institution “Stavropygius Higher Vocational School of Lviv”.

After completing his studies, he worked at a factory in Ryasny. He adored music, skillfully played the guitar, was also fond of cooking and sports. He was an exceptionally honest and courageous person.

After completing the training, he defended the Motherland in the eastern direction as part of the 214th separate special battalion OPFOR of the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security of the National Academy of Ground Forces named after Hetman Petr Sahaydachny.

Oleg Bohenek is survived by his mother, sister and 8-year-old son.
