Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Oleh Sydor and Ihor Voznyi

On Friday, 28 February, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Oleh Sydor and Ihor Voznyi, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders. The mayor’s office calls on citizens to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The farewell to the defender Oleh Sydor will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of All Saints of the Ukrainian People (22 Petliury Street). The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St John the Divine (Zymna Voda village, entrance to the church from the Epicentre/Three Elephants). The defender will be buried at the cemetery in Zymna Voda.

The funeral service for defender Ihor Voznyi will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul. Later, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

The defender will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographical information on the defenders

Ihor Voznyi (“Tourist”) (31.12.1981-07.01.2023) Born in the village of Cherche, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

In 1999, he graduated from the Cherche Special School of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council, and later entered the Academician Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities.

After graduation, he did his regular military service in Lviv as part of the 80th separate Galician Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He worked as a sales manager. His family says that Ihor Voznyi was a loving father and son, a caring man who always put his family first. A good host, a loyal friend. Responsible, honest, courageous and fair – you could always rely on him because he always kept his promises. In his spare time, he was fond of fishing.

After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to the ranks of the 80th separate air assault brigade. He fought against the Russian invaders in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Ihor Voznyi is survived by his parents, wife, son and two brothers with their families.

He studied at Lyceum No. 40 of the Lviv City Council. After graduation, he served in the ranks of the border guards.

For more than 20 years, he worked as a carpenter at enterprises in Lviv. He was passionate about his work – he loved working with wood and designing furniture.

From the first months of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the 95th separate Polissia Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend his homeland from the invaders. He performed combat missions in the defence of the state on the Kherson, Donetsk and Kursk directions. He was repeatedly honoured by his command for his selfless actions in the defence of Ukraine.

Oleh Sydor is survived by his mother and son.
