Tomorrow, October 20, Lviv will say goodbye to Hero Yury Kostyk, who died in the battle with the Russian invaders. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, the serviceman will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

The City Hall urges you to join the farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertaining events and celebrations during this time.

The city farewell ceremony for the military man will take place at Rynok Square at 11:30 a.m.

Route of the funeral procession: Garrison Church of St. App. Peter and Paul UGCC (Tetralna Street, 11) – sq. Cathedral – square Rynok (city farewell ceremony) – str. Ruska – st. Basement – st. Volodymyr Vinnichenko – square Soborna – st. Pekarska – st. Shimzeriv – st. Mechnikova – Lychakiv cemetery.

Blue and yellow flags with a mourning ribbon will be hung on the buildings along the route of the convoy.

Biographical reference of the Hero

Yurii Kostyk (“Hero”) (11/16/1977-10/16/2022). A native of Lviv.

He studied at secondary comprehensive school No. 60 of the city of Lviv and the educational complex “Sheptytskyi High School”. He graduated from the communal institution of the Lviv Regional Council “Lviv Regional Small Academy of Sciences”. He was a multiple winner of history olympiads. Graduated from the Faculty of History of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. He wrote his thesis on the Ukrainian diplomat Count Mykhailo Tyshkevych in English.

After completing his studies, he worked at the Lviv National Medical University named after Danylo Halytskyi. At the same time, he taught the history of Ukraine in English for foreign students. Subsequently, he held the position of a researcher in the Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine named after Vasyl Stefanyk.

With the beginning of the Russian aggression, he performed tasks in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions in the ranks of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2016, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Hero is survived by his wife, four children and mother.

According to a close person, Yury Kostyk was “a person with a deep civilian soul, very kind, maybe too kind for the army.”
