Tomorrow, Lviv community will say goodbye to defenders Vadym Buley and Taras Onyskiv

On Tuesday, 14 May, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Vadym Buley and Taras Onyskiv, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.

Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremonies and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service for defender Vadym Buley will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at the Holoskiv cemetery.

The farewell to the defender Taras Onyskiv will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the family home (15 Polubotka Street, Lysynychi village). At 12:30, a prayer and farewell to the soldier will be held at the local church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeviya at 1 Shevchenko Square. The funeral rite will begin at 14:00 in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 14:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

He studied at the Pidbirtsi Lyceum and later at the Lysynychiv Gymnasium. While at school, he distinguished himself for his courage and fairness. He received his higher education at the College of Engineering and Economics of Lviv Polytechnic National University.

He was fond of cars and founded his own car service centre, Karat. According to his family and friends, Taras Onyshkiv “was always brave, determined and strong-willed, never afraid of difficulties and overcame them with ease. He was engaged in volunteer activities, always supported and helped everyone who asked him to do so.”

From the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he led a movement of local volunteers who set up a checkpoint and later a volunteer community in the villages of Lysynychi and Pidbirtsi, and was the founder of the NGO TZIL.

In April 2023, he joined the 12th Special Forces Brigade “Azov” of the National Guard of Ukraine to defend his homeland. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state on the eastern frontline.

Taras Onyskiv is survived by his mother, wife, son and sisters.

He studied at Lyceum No. 17 of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University (then Lviv Polytechnic Institute). He served in the ranks of the artillery.

Until 2001, he worked at the Lychakiv District Employment Centre in Lviv, and later held the position of sales manager for construction materials at a local company. In his spare time, he was fond of football and billiards, and, according to his family, was extremely “kind and responsive, with great respect for people”.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the 710th Security Brigade of the State Special Transport Service.

Vadym Buley is survived by his wife and three daughters.
