Diabetes: how to prevent the disease or slow down its progression

How to change your diet to reduce the risk of developing diabetes
To reduce the risk of diabetes, you should minimize or completely avoid added sugar and pre-processed foods, including processed grains (flour, white rice). It is better to replace them with whole grains.
Try to increase the consumption of fiber – vegetables and fruits. Fruits and vegetables that do not contain starch should make up at least half of the daily diet.
Legumes (lentils, beans, chickpeas, peas) also contain a lot of fiber and healthy vegetable protein. People who eat a lot of high-fiber foods tend to eat fewer calories, don’t gain excess weight, and therefore have a lower risk of developing diabetes.
Your family doctor can help you change your eating habits.
We will remind you that more than 67,000 diabetes patients were registered in the Lviv Region, of which 13,390 are insulin-dependent and 943 are children. To protect yourself from type 2 diabetes, you must:
reach a normal body weight and maintain it;
be physically active – devote at least 150 minutes a week to regular physical activity;
follow a healthy diet and reduce the amount of sugar and saturated fats in the diet;
refrain from smoking. The post was prepared within the framework of the information campaign of the Minister of Health of Ukraine “Healthier together” and on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.
