The first territorial medical association of the city of Lviv accepts a lot of patients who were evacuated from the eastern and central regions of Ukraine. As a result of enemy shelling, they receive a variety of injuries and wounds that Lviv doctors struggle with on a daily basis.
“We have a lot of civilian patients from the eastern and central regions of Ukraine, where active hostilities are taking place. In these regions, virtually all infrastructure has been destroyed, including medical facilities, so people in their hometowns cannot receive medical care. We have many internally displaced persons who either approach us on their own or enter through humanitarian medical corridors.
Now the structure of our injury has changed dramatically. We see injuries that are only possible with war. Usually such injuries are received by the military, but due to the shelling of the civilian population, ordinary citizens now suffer such severe injuries. In any case, we are ready to provide all possible assistance to all those who need it, “said Hnat Gerych, head of the first surgical department of the ambulance hospital of the First TMO.
One of the patients of this hospital was Olga from Luhansk region, whose apartment was hit by a mine. The victim was hospitalized in a very serious condition. The mortar shelling resulted in multiple injuries to the abdomen, soft tissues of the torso, lower extremities and face. The right hand suffered the most: the patient actually has no humerus at all.
“We are from the city of Popasna, Luhansk region. On March 7, a mine flew into our balcony, injuring my wife Olga. A neighbor who was with us at the time died. The ambulance evacuated his wife to Bakhmut, then to Kramatorsk, from there to the Dnieper and only then we were transported to Lviv.
Now the main goal is to restore his wife’s health. We are very pleased with how they helped us in Lviv. Doctors are incredible, they pay a lot of attention to Olya, “the patient’s husband shared.
Note that while the woman is receiving treatment in Lviv, one of her sons is defending her homeland in Mariupol.
