A man from Stryi organised smuggling of a person liable for military service across the border for USD 10 thousand

Law enforcers detain offender for smuggling of conscript across the border in Lviv region

It has been established that for USD 10 thousand, under martial law, the offender undertook to organise illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine outside the checkpoints and transfer him to one of the European countries.

The 21-year-old resident of Stryi was exposed by investigators of the Economic and Official Crime Investigation Department of the Lviv Police Investigation Department jointly with the SBU Office in Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.

Law enforcement officers detained the offender on 4 July in Stryi in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after he received the entire agreed amount of money from the “client”.

Investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 of Art. 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
