On 1 December 2024, in the Cathedral of Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Sokal, the rite of enthronement of the new Ruling Bishop of the Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy, Bishop Petro Loza, will be held.
On 17 October 2024, the Vatican announced that the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, with the consent of the Synod, accepted the resignation of Bishop Mykhailo Koltun, who had reached the age of 75.
In his place, a new ruling bishop was appointed, the current auxiliary bishop, Bishop Petro Loza. These decisions were blessed by the Holy Father Francis.
In connection with this historic event, many guests are expected to arrive in Sokal, including the visit of the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
On Sunday, police officers will block traffic in the city centre and restrict parking on side streets. We ask the residents of Sokal to be understanding and to avoid the central streets of the city when planning trips.
