Lviv cancels Easter night services due to curfew, full worship schedule announced

This year, Christians in Lviv will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ without the usual night services in the city’s main cathedrals.

Due to martial law and the ongoing curfew from midnight to 5:00 a.m., traditional Easter midnight liturgies will not take place.

Despite the restrictions, churches across Lviv have prepared a rich schedule of Holy Week and Easter services adapted to wartime conditions and safety requirements.

St. George’s Cathedral (UGCC):
April 18 – Good Friday:

  • 9:00 – Royal Hours and Vespers with the Shroud

  • 14:00 – Jesus Prayer for cancer patients

  • 15:00 – Compline with the Lament of the Mother of God

  • 18:00 – Jerusalem Matins

April 19 – Holy Saturday:

  • 9:00 – Vespers with Basil the Great’s Liturgy

  • 12:00–21:30 – Blessing of Easter baskets every 30 minutes

  • 14:00 – Jesus Prayer for cancer patients

  • 21:30 – Funeral Service and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy

April 20 – Easter Sunday:

  • 7:00 – Paschal Matins and Hierarchical Liturgy

  • 11:00 – Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

  • 14:00 – Easter Hours
