Lviv will honor the fallen Ukrainians with a moment of silence and a church bell

On Sunday, October 1, a nationwide moment of silence will be held in honor of all those who gave their lives in the defense of Ukraine. On this day, when the church celebrates the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God, and the state celebrates the Defenders of Ukraine Day, Lviv will join in honoring the heroes by ringing the bell from the city’s churches.

“I ask everyone to support the president’s initiative so that on Sunday, October 1, at 9:00 a.m., we stop for a minute. No matter where we are – in public transport, in a car, or just on the street, mentally honor the heroes who lost their lives for our freedom,” Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy said in his address.

The city’s temples will also participate in the campaign. For a minute, churches of all denominations will ring their bells. “We know that the sound of bells always calls us to something. Very often, the bell calls us to pray for a conversation with God in the temple, and the bell also rings when something disturbing has happened. In addition, the voice of the bell announces good, joyful news.

This time, the ringing of the bells in our city reminds us that on this Defender’s Day we should stop and in a special way remember in prayer the immortal souls of our warrior heroes, who always remain in our memory!” — noted the chaplain of the Lviv City Council, Father Andriy Sydanych.

Public transport of Lviv will also be included in the all-Ukrainian action – at 9:00 city buses, trams and trolleybuses will stop for one minute. And then they will resume their movement along the routes.

We will remind that this year the holiday of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine on October 1 are celebrated for the first time. Due to the calendar reform carried out by the UGCC and OCU, the date of the holiday was moved according to the New Yulian calendar from October 14 to October 1.
