The UGCC church burned down in the Lviv region: the priest asks for help in reconstruction

On March 23, in the village of Smozhe, Stryi District, Lviv Oblast, the Church of St. Archangel Michael of the UGCC burned down.

Administrator of the temple Fr. Petro Horichko appealed to all concerned communities of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, as well as people of good will, with a request for help in rebuilding the burnt shrine.

I am asking caring people of good will to help rebuild the UGCC church and put their bricks in our church. May God reward all donors!” – urged Fr. Peter Gorichko.

As reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Lviv Oblast, rescuers received information about the fire on March 23 at 10:53 a.m. Rescuers extinguished the fire, but the wooden church was completely destroyed by fire. Only the bell tower was saved.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in the village of Smozhe is an active wooden church, an architectural monument of national importance. It is used jointly by the community of UGCC and OCU. The temple is located in the village cemetery. Since 1979, it has been included in the architectural monuments of state and now national significance.
