The Bethlehem flame of peace was handed over to the Lviv community

Today, December 14, in the Archcathedral of St. George, Lviv plastrons handed over the Flame of Bethlehem to the Lviv community – a symbol of goodness and support in difficult times. So everyone who wants to can light their candle from the Bethlehem fire.

“The Bethlehem flame of peace is already in Lviv. We thank our plastuns for keeping this tradition every year. We need this light as a symbol of hope and victory in the midst of all worries,” said Andriy Sadovy, the mayor of Lviv.

We will remind you that for more than 20 years the plastuns have been participating in the scout relay of the flame lit in Bethlehem. And for more than 9 years, he has been spreading throughout Ukraine during the war.

“Let fire be a symbol of mutual support this winter. We invite everyone to join the scouting tradition and share the Bethlehem fire with their family, neighbors, friends, and at the same time give them warmth, a smile and support,” the plastuns invite.

Plast is Ukrainian Scouting, the largest youth organization in Ukraine. For 110 years, Plast has been educating conscious, responsible citizens and leaders of Ukrainian society. Every year, volunteer plastuns invest more than 668,000 hours in raising children and annually conduct more than two hundred plastun camps throughout Ukraine.

The Bethlehem Flame of Peace is an international scouting campaign for the celebration of Christmas, the purpose of which is to spread the symbolic fire lit in Bethlehem. The action was founded in 1988 as a charitable step: to bring the light from the birthplace of Jesus Christ to those who celebrate Christmas away from home. The initiative was first supported by the scouts of Vienna, and later – of other countries. Fire first came to Ukraine thanks to plastuns in 1992.
