Science shows, master classes and lectures: the OL Science Festival is ongoing in Lviv

The OL science festival started at the open-air location, Duck’s Lake. Various master classes are held here, science shows are shown, and the magic of chemistry, physics, and biology are introduced. The festival lasts until 19:00, so everyone can still join. Participation is free.

This year, the OL science festival is taking place for the fourth time. The slogan of this festival is #science_wins.

“Every year we choose a concept that meets the requirements of the time. Due to the war and many other factors, times are quite difficult in Ukraine, so this year the concept of the festival is #science_wins. Each of us is a kind of researcher and very often we don’t even realize it. But everyone has their own unique ideas, a desire for knowledge or research, and this gives us all the opportunity to change this world. We are convinced that one person can transform society,” says Anastasia Martynyuk, head of the Lviv Open Lab youth space and main coordinator of the OL festival.

The festival program is divided into three blocks:

“Think” – public speeches and lectures by speakers, including:

Maria Pavlinchuk, former producer of “New Channel”, co-founder of the NGO “Movement of Oleksandr Pedana Junior”;

Olesya Pavlyshyn, chief editor of the popular science media “Kunsht” and Oksana Broshnivska, editor of the popular science media;

Iryna Hnativ, head of the research center of Galichpharm JSC;

Halyuk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar Defense.

“Create” – practical master classes during the day from the “Sverlyk” Creative Workshop and the Young Inventor’s Club with the support of Lviv Open Lab, the City Museum, the Inventor Stem-school, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, ECYGDA, the NGO “SAV First Aid Courses” and others

“Impress” – scientific shows on stage:

“First Scientific Theater”
“Chemistry of life”
VR-technologies “VReali”
MAN Museum of Science in Kyiv
Science show by DJ Johnny Blaze
Direct connection from the Antarctic station “Akademik Vernadskyi”

“CREATE team! Together with our partners, we held a very valuable event today, where there is a lot about science, innovation, and education. All this is presented in a very convenient, cool, modern way, which helps to instill in children and young people a love for science, inventions and research. This is especially valuable during a large-scale war. Such measures make it possible to increase the number of those who will work in the field of science in one, two, five or ten years”, – notes Andriy Moskalenko, the first deputy mayor of Lviv.

The project is implemented by the youth space Lviv Open Lab from the network of youth spaces CREATE! within the framework of the Springboard to Equality project, implemented by the UN Population Fund in Ukraine in partnership with the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine with the financial support of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine.
