Lviv oblast farmers will store more than 100,000 tons of grain in their sleeves

A grain storage project is operating in the Lviv region, within the scope of which it is planned to save more than 100 thousand tons of grain from 200 farmers of the region.

The project is part of the AGRI_Ukraine initiative and is implemented with the support of the USAID AGRO Program, Lviv Agricultural Advisory Service. In addition to the provision of capacities and equipment for storage, the project provides for monthly quality monitoring and the establishment of joint sales of grain.

As part of the project, today, November 2, they filled grain into temporary grain storage facilities (sleeves) in the Sambir district. Representatives of the USAID AGRO Program, authorities, and local farmers were invited to participate in the event.

“I thank colleagues from USAID AGRO for supporting agricultural enterprises. This is especially important in wartime. Lviv Oblast is an agrarian region, but it is not fully equipped with elevators. Such a project will help Lviv farmers to preserve grain of proper quality,” said the deputy head of Lviv OVA Yuriy Buchko.

Crop storage is a critical issue in Lviv and neighboring regions. The majority of producers do not have the funds to independently overcome this challenge, due to the increase in production costs (change in the price of fuel and lubricants, mineral fertilizers, plant protection products (PP) and the increase in the cost of loans. Therefore, with the help of the project, the work in the region was established from the storage of self-grown grain of agrarians.

According to Oleksandr Prykhodko, manager of the development of agricultural markets of the USAID AGRO program, Lviv Oblast today is a kind of hub that has taken on an important mission not only to preserve agricultural products, but also to establish export sales channels.

“We faced a situation when export chains were completely reoriented, exports shifted towards the EU, and Lviv Region felt this very much. The load on our storage capacity has doubled. The availability of such a possibility of temporary grain storage in this particular season is very important. I hope that this experience will be focused on the following years, because I am sure that it will be successful”, – emphasized the director of the department of agro-industrial development of Lviv OVA Tetyana Hetman.

We will remind that with the assistance of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), until October 30, farmers had the opportunity to submit applications through the DAR system for receiving free sleeves for temporary grain storage.

Within the first stage of the project, 47 agricultural producers of Lviv Oblast will receive humanitarian aid in the form of means of temporary storage of grain (sleeves) in the amount of 613 units. Each farmer can find information about the approved application, the number of sleeves and the address of the warehouse for receiving sleeves in the personal account of the agro-producer in the DAR in the “Messages” section or the “My applications” section.
