The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, together with the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the executive partner, the All-Ukrainian Association of Local Self-Governments, the Ukrainian Association of District and Oblast Councils, started the implementation of the program to provide farmers with sleeves for grain storage.
Today, November 4, they started handing over the first batch of such sleeves to farmers of the Lviv region. Within the framework of the first stage of the project, 47 agricultural producers of Lviv Oblast will receive humanitarian aid in the form of means of temporary storage of grain (sleeves) in the amount of 613 pieces. Also, farmers will be provided with sets of special equipment for loading grain.
The executive director of the Association of Local Councils “Councils of the Lviv region” Danylo Sorokovy noted that this is a real and extremely important help to our agrarian sector.
“The Lviv Regional Council, as a member of UAROR, gladly joined the UN FAO project to provide humanitarian aid to agricultural producers as a partner. We ensured the distribution of aid in the Lviv region, communication with agricultural producers and the delivery of equipment,” said Danylo Sorokovy.
Such assistance to small farmers and businesses is part of FAO’s Grain Storage Support Strategy. The program is implemented with the financial support of the governments of Canada, Japan and the Australian charity Minderoo Foundation.
In general, it is planned to distribute 35,000 sleeves in Ukraine, which will ensure the storage of 7 million tons of grain. The main criteria for the participants of the program are the presence of a plot of land in official cultivation from 100 to 10 thousand hectares in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine and the use of sleeves exclusively for the storage of self-grown products.
Submission of applications took place until October 30 through the State Agrarian Register – a digital platform, thanks to which the process is as convenient, transparent and fast as possible.
