In the Lviv region, sunflowers and wild rape began to be sown

Compared to last year, sunflowers were sown 6 days later.

At the end of last week, agrarians of four districts of Lviv region started sowing a group of technical crops, namely sunflower and spring rapeseed, the department of agro-industrial development of the Lviv State Regional Government reported.

As of now, according to operational data of the department, spring technical crops have been sown on an area of 10.7 thousand hectares (6% of the forecast). Of this amount, sugar beet was sown on 7.8 thousand hectares, spring rapeseed on an area of 0.7 thousand hectares in Zolochiv and Lviv districts, sunflower on an area of 2.3 thousand hectares in Stryi and Chervonograd districts. Compared to last year, sunflowers were sown 6 days later.

“One of the features of this year’s spring field work is that the agro-meteorological conditions for sowing for different crops coincide in time, therefore the agrarians of the region carry out sowing of both early and late crops in parallel, taking into account the condition of the soil and the conditions of a specific field,” – noted Tetyana Hetman, director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of Lviv OVA.

Early grain sowing continues in all categories of Lviv Oblast farms. As of mid-April, the total area of spring barley, wheat, oats and peas sown is 22,000 hectares, or more than 50% of the forecast. 9 thousand ha (63%) were sown in the commercial sector.
