Sowing of winter crops for the 2025 harvest has started in Lviv region

Next year’s winter crops will account for about 30% of the total sown area.

For the 2025 harvest, farms of all categories are planning to sow winter crops on an area of 223.5 thousand hectares.

Of these hectares, 173.8 thousand have been planted for grain crops and 49.7 thousand hectares for oilseeds, including winter rape. Next year’s winter crops will account for about 30% of the total sown area.

According to the operational information of the Department of Agricultural Development, as of 31 October this year, 95% of all winter crops were sown to the forecasted area of 211.3 thou hectares.

Sowing of winter rape has already been completed and the winter wedge has been formed on the area of 50.3 thou hectares, which is 1.1 thou hectares more than last year.

“The projected area of winter crops this season is slightly lower compared to last year. Farmers attribute this to the abnormal drought in September, which affected the pace and timing of sowing. We hope that the crops will have time to reach the appropriate growth and development stage necessary for overwintering, and the right agrotechnological solutions will help farmers achieve high yields next year,” said Liudmyla Honcharenko, acting director of the Department of Agricultural Development at Lviv Regional State Administration.
