The sowing campaign has officially started in Lviv Oblast

The sowing campaign of 2023 has already started in the Lviv region. Sowing of spring crops will continue until the beginning of June.

This year, the sown area in Lviv Oblast will increase. The projected area of agricultural crops for harvest will be about 750 thousand hectares. Currently, the process of sowing early spring grain and technical crops – wheat, barley, oats, millet, rice, buckwheat – is underway in all regions.

“This is already the second year, which we can call crisis and difficult, but our farmers continue to sow despite all the challenges they had to face. This year, we expect that the sown area will remain at the level of last year’s indicators, and maybe even increase within 1%. We expect that in 2023 the sown area will be equal to about 750 thousand hectares. Our agrarians understand that it is necessary to carry out the sowing company in spite of everything, because not all regions have such an opportunity”, – noted the director of the APR department of the Lviv OVA Tetyana Hetman.

The sowing campaign of 2023 is characterized by a number of challenges faced by farmers. Due to the frosts, the sowing process has slowed down a bit, but this will not prevent the farmers of the region from finishing the campaign in early June. As for the peculiarities of this year’s sowing, it will definitely be a difficult year for farmers, given the limited export of products and the increase in the cost of resources.

The largest decrease in area in 2023 is expected under corn – in the pre-war period it was the most exported crop, so its prices fell the most last year. Among the most attractive are technical crops that have a stable demand in European countries – rapeseed and soybeans.

“This year my farm will be 30 years old. We have already sown spring crops – barley and oats. The farm is focused on market demand, so we have sown onions and will plant cabbage. We try to respond to the market situation and satisfy the demand of the district and region. When we see that there is a certain product that is increasing in price, we decide to plant it on our territory. In this way, we aim to reduce the demand and the price of products”, – said the head of one farm in the Zolochiv district, Andriy Splnyk.

Lviv Oblast is the record holder for the volume of financing of agricultural enterprises. Within the framework of the regional program of support and development of agriculture, more than 34 million hryvnias are directed to the support of micro and small economic entities engaged in the cultivation of agricultural products in our region.

It is important to know that last year Lviv Oblast became the only region in Ukraine that approved the program to support farmers in wartime. This year, our region is the leader in the amount of financial support among other regions. In 2023, communities of the Lviv region joined the process of providing financial support, which allocated 2.2 million hryvnias from local budgets to help local producers.
