Organizer of Illegal Border Crossing Arrested in Lviv
In Lviv, a man accused of organizing the illegal transfer of a conscription-aged person across the border will face trial. It has been established that for $8,100, a 44-year-old Lviv resident arranged a scheme for a conscription-aged man to illegally cross Ukraine’s state border during a period of martial law. He undertook to update the “client’s” military registration documents, ensure the passage of the commission, and input data into appropriate systems, which would allow him to leave the country without obstruction.
Investigation and Arrest
The criminal was uncovered by investigators from the general criminal investigation division of the Lviv police investigation department together with operatives from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office. On October 24, 2024, law enforcement officers arrested the perpetrator under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on Chervonoyi Kalyny Avenue in Lviv after he received money from the “client.”
Court Proceedings
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings, opened under Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal cross-border movement of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has been completed. The indictment has been sent for court review. The article provides for a penalty of seven to nine years of imprisonment, with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, along with the confiscation of property.
