Lviv Region Implements New Standards for Hazardous Waste Disposal
The recycling of mercury-containing lamps, thermometers, and batteries will become part of the Regional Waste Management Plan for the next 10 years. This aligns with European environmental standards and national goals.
Collaboration with SE ‘Bodnarivka’
The Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration held a working meeting with the management of SE ‘Bodnarivka’ – the only full-cycle mercury waste disposal plant in Ukraine. The enterprise has been operating since 2016 and was created with the support of the EU: the total project cost amounted to 1.3 million euros.
Modern Technologies and Circular Economy
The plant is equipped with a modern Swedish MRT System International line and operates on the principles of a circular economy – materials after processing can be reused.
The enterprise also accepts used batteries and mercury thermometers for further disposal.
